BACKGROUND
In 2017, A+E Networks became an official NWSL sponsor through the Lifetime network. As part of the historic partnership, Lifetime would air a match every weekend of the game season. Games would be available live and on-demand via the Lifetime app, and also on the NWSL website for non-U.S. fans.
I was the UX Designer for this project in which we redesigned the NWSL website to be able to offer fans a smooth game-watching experience, as well as provide a better experience navigating information on the site.
THE CHALLENGE
The challenge was to do a thorough audit of the existing NWSL website, redesign existing pages, and create new pages based on having identified gaps. We wanted to redesign the website with the user, the NWSL fan, first and foremost in mind. What do they come to the website for? What piece of information are they looking for off the bat and how can we make it easier for them?
Below a breakdown of how we went about tackling this challenge.
THE PROCESS
For the redesign, my team and I needed to prioritize NWSL fans being able to watch their games on the website seamlessly. This feature did not exist in the original NWSL website - fans went to the NWSL YouTube channel to watch their games. We wanted to make sure that the NWSL website would be a one-stop shop for watching games live, game highlight videos, latest news about the league and players.
After the audit, we pinpointed how we could reorganize the information architecture of the NWSL website and I created the new site map.
